Many people are looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle. The chance to witness a spectacular sunrise over Weiss Lake, a drove of wild turkeys seen while driving around Little River Canyon, sounds of laughter from rafters afloat Terrapin Creek, a breathtaking sunset viewed from atop Lookout Mountain, watching rock climbers at Cherokee Rock Village … many people look for such places, and we’re just a short drive from the major cities of Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga.
Cherokee County was established on the 9th of January 1836. The county was created on the former Cherokee Nation that encompassed the southern Appalachians of Alabama with parts of adjacent Georgia, Tennessee, and North and South Carolina The Cherokees departed and migrated outward in the early 1830's prior to the establishment of Cherokee County. |
